Welcome to the ATV Section of the Wayne National Forest Site!The Wayne National Forest is within a few hours drive of severalmetropolitan areas such as Columbus, Akron, Cleveland, Dayton, Cincinnati,Louisville, and Pittsburgh. Yet it retains an air of nostalgia, with coveredbridges, rock shelters, springs and rugged hills covered with hardwood andpine. Visitors to the Wayne are welcome to camp, hike, hunt, and fish. Ourboundaries surround a checkerboard pattern of ownership, with public andprivate ownership interspersed. Care must be taken to stay on Wayne NationalForest lands and respect private property. There are over 300 miles oftrails on the forest for hiking, all-terrain vehicle (ATV) riding, mountainbiking, or horseback riding. If you have a license plate, you do not need an ORV sticker unless you are in either of the above. If you are plated, you do not need a sticker to ride an ORV Route. The Monday Creek area of the Wayne National Forest provides some excellentopportunities for riding all-terrain vehicles (ATVs) and off-highway motorcycles(OHMs). The Hanging Rock area of the Wayne National Forest provides some excellentopportunities for riding all-terrain vehicles (ATVs) and off highway motorcycles(OHMs). This 5,000-acre area has 24 miles of trail available for off-roadvehicle, hiking, and mountain bike use.These trails wind through an area strip-mined in the 1960's and 1970's. Much ofthe upland area was badly scarred, and some areas are left with steep slopesproviding challenging trails to riders. The area is also known for its fishingponds, 51 of which are available for fishing. The ponds which are scatteredalong the ATV trail, lend a picturesque backdrop to an ATV ride.Area Activities: Mountain Biking, Dispersed Camping, Lake and Pond Fishing, Day Hiking, OHV Camping, OHV Trail Riding, Boating - Non-MotorizedFees: Trail Permits required for ATV or mountain bike riders. The ponds located along oldmining haul roads receive the most fishing pressure, while those located inthe remote and rugged areas rarely are visited by anglers.
